Apple Watch Pre-Orders Will Start Just After Midnight Pacific On April 10th

Tinder’s First Advertisement Is One Big Experiment
We knew the date; now we know the time.
Apple Watch pre-orders will officially begin at 12:01 a.m. PDT on April 10th, according to a just updated Apple Store front page.
Want an Apple Watch and live in New York? Hope you like staying up ’til 3 a.m.!
Why might Apple fire sales up at such a late hour? The company generally doesn’t explain its reasoning for anything, but we can make a few assumptions:
Traffic control. Apple’s pre-order pages consistently buckle under the weight of a zillion Apple devotees pounding the refresh key. By pushing it to midnight pacific, they’re limiting it to the people who really, really want to get their pre-order in first and are willing to stay up late to do so . And if the servers do still buckle, there are less people to see the complaints on Twitter Apple generally goes by a west coast clock; by starting it at midnight, their “first day sales” numbers will account for a full 24 hoursIt’s Apple, not some company debuting their wares on Kickstarter. Whatever timing they choose, it’s unlikely to be a factor that negatively impacts sales — so they might as well choose a time that makes things easier for them.
Pro tip: if Apple.com goes down, sometimes Apple’s Apple Store iPhone app continues to work and accept orders.

Tesla China Cuts Jobs After Slow Sales

Fiberead Helps Foreign Authors Break Into China’s E-Book MarketOne year after its cars first became available in China, Tesla Motors is scaling back its workforce after weak sales. The company confirmed to Bloomberg that it will eliminate several positions after a report in the Economic Observer, a Chinese newspaper, claimed that Tesla China planned to cut 180 of its 600 jobs, or about a third of its staff. Tesla Motors did not confirm that number.
In a statement, a company representative said “the current China team is strong and steady” and that:
The restructuring, nearly done, was part of the effort to implement our 2015 China Strategies announced by Tom Zhu in the beginning of the year, so as to build a strong and highly efficient team, and to quickly respond to the market and better serve the customers.
After weaker-than-expected sales in January, Tesla Motors chief executive Elon Musk reportedly said he would fire executives in a bid to improve the company’s performance in China.
Tesla China has already seen turnover in its leadership. President Veronica Wu left in December, while its vice president of communications, June Jin, resigned last month. Both had been in their positions for less than a year.
Tesla Motors faces several significant challenges in China. These include higher prices because of import taxes, but one of the biggest roadblocks it faces is the lack of a charging infrastructure. Tesla Motors has tried to solve that problem by making China the first country where it offers to install wall connectors for free in customers’ homes.
Free chargers, however, may not be enough to compete against local electric car manufacturers like BYD and Kandi, which are subsidized by the government in an effort to reduce pollution and gasoline consumption.

Salesforce Shares Spike To All-Time High After Meeting Street’s Profit Estimate, Boosting Its Full-Year Guidance

Sometimes when a company reports in-line earnings, its stock price takes a knuckle to the temple. Other times, if a firm meets market expectations, it gets a nice pop in value.
Enter Salesforce the Latter. Today after the bell, Salesforce reported $1.44 billion in fourth quarter revenue, and adjusted earnings per share of $0.14. Both were dead in-line with market expectations. The company’s shares are up more than 6 percent in after-hours trading.
The company is currently trading at an all-time high. Tomorrow morning should be a watershed moment for the SaaS firm.
Is strong guidance pushing Salesforce higher? To a certain extent. The company raised its guidance, but only to levels that match market demands. Salesforce expects $1.48 billion to $1.50 billion in current-quarter revenue. The market expects the company to post $1.5 billion, so, both teams are mostly in agreement. It’s the same story when it comes to the company’s fiscal 2016 (current calendar year), with the company anticipating $6.47 billion to $6.52 billion in top line. The market? $6.5 billion.
So, all things seems to be skating along quite nicely. Aside from its nice 26 percent year-over-year revenue growth in the last quarter and strong cash generation, Business Insider’s Julie Bort makes a decent point: “Analysts were actually looking for a giant leap in profits over the year ago quarter when it reported $0.07 EPS on $1.15 billion in revenue.” That makes Salesforce’s meets-expectations quarter a little more enticing.
Given the above, I presume that Dreamforce will be as insufferable as always, provided that you live in San Francisco.

After Relaunching As A Full-Service Accounting Startup, inDinero Raises Another $7M

Hey, remember inDinero? We covered the Y Combinator-incubated company a couple times back in 2010, when it was trying to build a Mint-style service for small businesses and raised $1.2 million in seed funding.
Well, co-founder and CEO Jessica Mah told me that in the years since, the company nearly ran out of money, laid off all its employees, and switched to a new model. But it seems to have bounced back, and it’s accelerating those efforts with $7 million in new funding.
Instead of a self-service tool for tracking small business finances, inDinero now offers what Mah calls an all-in-one solution for accounting, taxes and payroll. That means businesses don’t need to piece together a bunch of different service providers and software products to get all their needs met

Zynga Drops 9% After Its $192M Q4 Revenue And Guidance Disappoint

Zynga reported its fourth quarter financial performance today after the bell, including revenue of $192.5 million and earnings per share of $0.00. Investors had expected the company to earn $0.00 on revenue of $201.11 million. The firm also reported bookings in the quarter of $182.4 million.
The company’s flat earnings per share is based on adjusted profit. Using normally accepted accounting methods, Zynga lost $45.13 million, or $0.05 per share. In the year-ago period, Zynga had revenue of $176.36 million, on which it lost $25.24 million, or $0.03 cents per share. So, Zynga grew its revenue by just over 9 percent in the last year.
Zynga announced in its earnings that it will close its games studio in China, impacting 71 employees. The company anticipates savings of $7 million per year.
The company was off around 5 percent today in regular trading, and, following its missed earnings has tanked nearly 10 percent after hours.

Walmart Expands Online Grocery Shopping Efforts After Strong Repeat Business

Walmart today expanded its online grocery-shopping service, which allows customers to shop online then pick up at their local stores, to a new market: Huntsville, Ala. The move comes only days after Walmart brought the same service to a handful of stores in the Phoenix area, as well. The retailer is still describing the curbside pickup option as something it’s
